The Best Home Equipment for Young Athletes

Ann-Marie Antic • March 11, 2025

A common question from parents at the gym is: "What home equipment should we buy for our young athletes?"

To help, we’ve compiled a simple guide with four recommended items, listed in order of priority, along with exercises to help your young athlete build strength and skill.

1. Gymnastics Rings

Versatile, portable, and great for upper body and core strength—gymnastics rings offer excellent value. Just ensure you have a secure place to hang them.

2. Dumbbells

Dumbbells are a home gym essential, providing endless exercise options.

Recommended Starter Set:

  • Pairs of 2.5kg, 5kg, 7.5kg, and 10kg - This compact Cast Iron Adjustable Dumbbell Set offers a versatile range of weights and is easy to store, making it perfect for any workout space!
  • Add 12kg and 15kg pairs later as strength improves.

You can just get them to do a circuit of the above exercises. Aim for 2-3 rounds of 10-12 reps per exercise. That is a great little workout. Just remove the floor press.

3. Resistance Bands

Compact and affordable, bands add resistance for full-body strength training.
