Why just doing more cardio isn’t shifting the weight

Neven Antic • April 27, 2026

When weight isn’t moving, most adults’ first instinct is:

“Add more cardio.”

The problem is, for a lot of Adelaide adults, more cardio is not fixing the issue – and sometimes making it worse.

What cardio actually gives you

Cardio is great for:

  • Heart health
  • Building basic fitness
  • Burning some calories

But if all you do is add more and more cardio, you often end up:

  • Hungrier
  • More tired
  • Less motivated to lift weights or move outside your sessions

Why strength is your secret weapon

When you prioritise strength training classes in Adelaide:

  • You build and keep more muscle
  • Your metabolism has more “engine”
  • Your body looks and feels different even at the same scale weight

That’s why at D8 we build fat loss around:

  • 2–3 Adult Group Strength  sessions per week
  • Simple, sustainable nutrition upgrades
  • Optional extra walking or light cardio on top

The food piece you can’t outrun

If nutrition is out of control, no amount of cardio will fix it.

That doesn’t mean starving yourself. It means:

  • Eating enough protein
  • Reducing ultraprocessed snacks and drinks
  • Getting consistent with “boring” but effective meals most of the week

How we put this together at D8

We support fat loss in two main ways:

  • Inside Adult memberships with our realfood guides and coaching
  • Through the 12Week Nutrition & Habits Accelerator for people who want more structure, accountability and nutrition coaching in Adelaide

Both are built around strength first, not endless cardio.
