Offseason done right: What ambitious Adelaide athletes should do between seasons

Neven Antic • June 1, 2026

Most athletes think the season is where they improve.

In reality, offseason is where you build the qualities that are hard to develop once games and training load kick in.

If your 15–20yearold has big goals, here’s how to use the time between seasons wisely with off season training for athletes in Adelaide.

Step 1: Let the body and brain breathe

Straight after the season, we usually recommend:

  • 1–2 weeks of lighter activity
  • Gentle movement, walking, maybe some very light skill work

Then we build back with a plan.

Step 2: Build strength and power

The offseason is the best time to:

  • Add serious strength in key lifts
  • Improve power (jumps, accelerations)
  • Fix imbalances and weak links

This is where our 10 Week Athlete Accelerator shines,  for our athlete who want to prioritise strength and conditioning in Adelaide with

  • 2x or 3x sessions per week
  • Strong focus on strength, power and speed
  • Testing at the start and end

Step 3: Address underlying issues

We use offseason to:

  • Clean up movement patterns
  • Work around or rehabilitate lingering niggles (in coordination with health pros as needed)
  • Improve things like landing mechanics and changeofdirection

Much easier to do this without weekly games.

Step 4: Gradually reintroduce conditioning

We don’t ignore fitness, but we don’t start with endless running.

We:

  • Add conditioning once strength and movement are improving
  • Base it around the demands of their sport (not random suffering)
  • Build towards preseason so they hit it prepared, not wrecked

Book an Athlete Assessment & Testing session.

We’ll test where they’re starting from and map out how to use the 10 Week Athlete Accelerator to make this offseason count.
