How we keep your child safe in the gym: A behind the scenes look at JuniorGym

Neven Antic • August 20, 2026

Letting your 10–15yearold train in a gym can feel scary.

So here’s exactly how we keep kids safe in JuniorGym Academy, our kids strength training in Adelaide.

1. Coach to kid ratios and caps

We run:

  • Small groups
  • Clear caps based on age and level
  • Enough coaches to actually watch every set

No 30 kid “chaos” classes.

2. Age Appropriate exercies

We focus on:

  • Bodyweight patterns
  • Light external loads (dumbbells, kettlebells, bands)
  • Safe technique before adding weight

No max testing. No ego lifts.

3. Clear progression steps

We don’t jump from easy to crazy.

We:

  • Use simple progressions
  • Only move kids up when they’ve mastered the basics
  • Track what they’re doing so we know where they’re at

4. Communication with parents

You’re not left in the dark.

We:

  • Explain what we’re working on
  • Offer testing/retesting so you can see progress
  • Are available to answer questions about safety, growth and sport

5. Culture and expectations

We set standards:

  • Shoes tied, no mucking around with equipment
  • Listen when coaches talk
  • Encourage others

Safety isn’t just the exercises; it’s the environment.

Nurses, ambos, police, hospitality, FIFO… lots of Adelaide adults don’t have a “normal” week. That doesn’t mean you can’t train. It just means the plan for your adult strength training in Adelaide has to be built differently.

You don’t need gym numbers to know whether over 60s strength training in Adelaide would help. Here are 7 simple “everyday tests” we use with over 60s. Try them and notice how they feel. Stand up from a chair without using your hands Climb a flight of stairs without pulling on the rail Carry two shopping bags from the car to the kitchen Get down to the floor and back up again safely Balance on one leg for 10 seconds Walk 400–500 m at a comfortable pace without stopping Pick up something from the floor without holding your breath If 3 or more of these feel shaky, slow or scary, balance and strength classes for seniors in Adelaide will likely help
