Multisport teens: How to balance their load without burning them out

Neven Antic • September 10, 2026

Lots of Adelaide teens play:

  • Winter sport
  • Summer sport
  • School sport

Plus occasional tournaments.

On top of that, parents are told “they should do strength and conditioning too.”

So how do you avoid burnout while still getting the benefits of athlete strength and conditioning in Adelaide?

Step 1: Map their total weekly load

List:

  • All trainings (with duration)
  • All games
  • Any extra sessions

Often you’ll see 6–9 physical commitments before gym is even considered.

Step 2: Decide the priority season

Ask:

  • Which sport matters most this year?
  • Which season are we happy to treat as “fun / lowerpriority”?

This guides where you put strength blocks and off season training for athletes in Adelaide.

Step 3: Use strength as support, not extra stress

In the 10 Week Athlete Accelerator, our sports performance training in Adelaide, we:

  • Slot gym sessions into lowerload days
  • Adjust volume based on game and tournament schedules
  • Focus on qualities that help across sports (strength, power, robustness)

Step 4: Watch for red flags

Pay attention to:

  • Mood changes
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Constant niggles

If these show up, something has to give – not just “push through.”

5. Culture and expectations

We set standards:

  • Shoes tied, no mucking around with equipment
  • Listen when coaches talk
  • Encourage others

Safety isn’t just the exercises; it’s the environment.

Want help juggling the puzzle?

If your 13–20yearold plays multiple sports and you’re unsure how to fit strength in safely:

Book an Athlete Assessment & Testing session.

We’ll review their full schedule and build a balanced plan that supports performance without frying them.

Nurses, ambos, police, hospitality, FIFO… lots of Adelaide adults don’t have a “normal” week. That doesn’t mean you can’t train. It just means the plan for your adult strength training in Adelaide has to be built differently.
