Strength training vs. Pilates, yoga and bootcamps: What's best for Adelaide adults 35+?

Neven Antic • September 24, 2026

When you're 35+, time and energy are limited. You want the best "return on effort" from your training.

The big four you'll hear about:

  • Strength training
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • Bootcamps / HIIT

They all have a place. They're not all equal for your goals, especially if you want adult strength training in Adelaide that actually changes how you look, feel and move.

What strength training gives you

Proper strength work gives you:

  • More muscle to support joints and metabolism
  • Better ability to lift, carry, climb and move in real life
  • Stronger bones and reduced injury risk

That's why strength training classes in Adelaide are the foundation of Adult Group Strength at D8.

Where Pilates and yoga fit

Pilates and yoga can be fantastic for:

  • Mobility and control
  • Breathing and body awareness
  • Managing stress

We have plenty of members who lift with us and do Pilates or yoga once a week on top. We just don't swap adult strength training in Adelaide out for them.

The bootcamp / HIIT question

Bootcamps and HIIT are good at:

  • Getting you sweaty
  • Burning calories
  • Feeling like you "worked hard"

They're not great at:

  • Progressive strength
  • Protecting cranky joints
  • Giving you a clear long-term plan

Random intensity should be the spice, not the base of your training.

How to put it together

If you're 35–60 and want to look, feel and move better:

  • Base: 2–3 strength training classes in Adelaide per week
  • Optional: 1 Pilates or yoga
  • Optional: 1 cardio / longer walk

You'll do more for your body with that mix than 6 random "smash" sessions.

Want help building this mix for your life?
